What are the symptoms of ADHD?

ADHD symptoms fall into three categories: inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.  

Inattention:

  • Difficulty focusing and staying on task  
  • Easily distracted  
  • Forgetfulness  
  • Losing things  
  • Difficulty following instructions  
  • Daydreaming  
  • Appearing not to listen  
  • Difficulty organizing tasks and activities  

Hyperactivity:

  • Fidgeting  
  • Restlessness  
  • Difficulty staying seated  
  • Excessive talking  
  • Difficulty playing quietly  
  • Always “on the go”  

Impulsivity:

  • Interrupting others  
  • Difficulty waiting their turn  
  • Blurting out answers  
  • Acting without thinking  

It’s important to note that everyone experiences these symptoms to some degree. To be diagnosed with ADHD, these symptoms must be excessive, long-term, and disruptive to daily life.
